![]() ![]() I learned about my maternal grandparents who spent the war in Czechoslovakia and Hungary under German occupation, and learned about my paternal grandmother who grew up on a farm outside Montreal that employed German prisoners of war. I was taught about two sides of the Second World War. ![]() “Canada’s contribution was never overlooked growing up. And I’m committed to telling the stories of the Canadian volunteers who lived a life of sacrifice during the Second World War.” I’m privileged to be part of the team that will attend the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. This experience will help me continue my studies and specialize in 20th-century Canadian memory. Currently studying history at university in Sherbrooke (Quebec), the position of guide at the Juno Beach Centre presented itself as a golden opportunity to share my passion for history. “I grew up in a family that always placed great importance on history, and this has shaped the way I understand the world. This is just one example of what makes this center an incredible and unique place to work, and I am delighted to be a part of its incredible team.” The Juno Beach Centre is an important place that continues to dedicate itself not only to the memory of those soldiers who fought bravely for the freedom of future generations but maintains that role in their honour through their commitment to sustainability. It has been just over a decade later and I am now working in the very place that started my passion. Ever since then I have been interested in history, so much so that I now teach it in Canada. “When I was 11 years old my family took me to Juno Beach to learn about Canada’s involvement in the Second World War. Shedding light on the history of these young Canadian volunteer soldiers and being part of an exceptional team that contributes to the work of remembrance, I sincerely hope to honor these soldiers, my country, my province, and, who knows, perhaps I will inspire a future guide too!” I am extremely proud and consider myself very fortunate to be able to represent Canada, as well as Quebec, as a guide at the Juno Beach Centre. As a young French-Canadian, I was deeply moved by my visit to the site, and I sincerely believe that this visit sparked the love I have today for history. “When I was fifteen years old, I had the opportunity to visit the Juno Beach Centre with my family. ![]()
